Burn victims in recovery after Temple plant explosion
On Tuesday, Oct. 1, Temple Fire and Rescue and EMS responded to a plant explosion at Delta Centrifugal on Center St. As crews were putting out the fire, they found five people severely burned. As of now, the victims are recovering.
A Temple father got the worst of the burns. He was on the roof trying to put out the fire when he fell and couldn't get up.

Mexia football player passes away following medical emergency
A Mexia football player that was hospitalized after an asthma attack has tragically passed away.
On Tuesday, Oct. 1, a community prayer was held by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Mexia community for Micah Kirven, who was hospitalized after an asthma attack which led to cardiac arrest.

Survivors from capsized boat in Alaska speak in presumptive death hearing
For the first time, 6 News is hearing from the survivors of a boat that capsized off the coast of Alaska, claiming the lives of a family from Troy, in a presumptive death hearing.
On Saturday, Aug. 3, David Maynard, 42, his wife Mary, 37, and their two sons, Colton, 11, and Brantley, 7, were aboard a 28-foot aluminum boat with four others when it capsized 16 miles west of Homer Spit around 7 p.m. The four others on the boat survived, but the Maynard's were never found, despite search efforts by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Governor Abbott visits Texas State Technical College to honor Manufacturing Day
To mark National Manufacturing Day on Oct. 4, Governor Greg Abbott stopped by Texas State Technical College (TSTC) in Waco to celebrate the many students and workers in manufacturing.
"TSTC offers career and technical training so that graduates can go on to high demand and high paying jobs across our state," Abbott said at the event. "An opportunity to give career-driven and technical training skills that can lead to a better job and a bigger paycheck."

Central Texans will receive a multi-billion-dollar grant thanks to Gov. Abbott
On Tuesday, Oct. 1, Gov. Greg Abbott announced a grant totaling more than $8.2 million to the Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA).
The funding will provide services to over 7,600 veterans and their families across 30 counties.
Back in May, the governor announced 181 grants totaling over $44 million to 161 organizations across the state. It is projected to provide direct services to nearly 41,000 veterans, their dependents and surviving spouses.

The Central Texas Food Bank is coming to Waco in 2025
The City of Waco is getting a new food bank in late 2025.
It was approved at the city council meeting on Oct. 1. The Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) will be a multi-purpose facility, serving McLennan County and surrounding areas. Re-zoning will be taking place at 1402 Gholson Road in the meantime so the Food Bank can be built.

In response to rising concerns about student safety, Waco High School has initiated a community-driven approach to foster a safer and more supportive environment for its students. Principal Joseph Alexander, who assumed leadership this year, has emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to address the challenges facing the school.

Girl Scout duo to be awarded with bronze award after creating exhibit at Temple Children's Museum
A Girl Scout duo in Temple will soon be getting their Bronze Award after making a difference in their community and creating an exhibit that will be a permanent part of the Temple Children's Museum.
Jasmine Gray and Avni Prakash wanted their project to be educational, using inspiration from their own upbringings to give others the opportunity to learn about different cultures, races and ethnicities.
