TEMPLE, Texas — A Girl Scout duo in Temple will soon be getting their Bronze Award after making a difference in their community and creating an exhibit that will be a permanent part of the Temple Children's Museum.
Jasmine Gray and Avni Prakash wanted their project to be educational, using inspiration from their own upbringings to give others the opportunity to learn about different cultures, races and ethnicities.
"We have a message that says in our community, our strength is our diversity... this message means that we respect everyone, all colors, and we believe in diversity," Prakash explained.
However, bringing this project full circle wasn't a simple task.
The interactive exhibit, which dives into different countries' cuisines, clothing, animals, languages and flags, took the girls over 20 hours to create and do research on.
"We started out with paper and our knowledge and now it's really existing in here in the museum," said Gray. "So that's a good thing to see."
Despite the work it took, the girls are most proud of the fact that the exhibit will be permanently on display at the Temple Children's Museum, where it will have a greater reach.
"I hope that they take away like how my parents are from India, I'm proud in that," said Prakash. "I hope that they are proud in their culture and where they're from."
"I just hope that they could, you know, learn something from looking at this and respect other people's cultures and have a positive vibe about it," Gray added. "Be proud of who they are. Like whoever, wherever they're from and learn a little bit more about other countries that are around the world and respect it."
Gray and Prakash chose to work towards getting their Bronze Award because they wanted to grow as leaders and in Girl Scouts.
With this project now completed, the girls are looking forward to their next goal: earning their silver award. They're still brainstorming ideas, but the completion of this project shows that they're on the right path.
