WEATHER AWARE | How long will the Central Texas Freeze last?

TEMPLE, Texas — The Arctic Blast has arrived in Central Texas, bringing dangerously cold conditions with it. Let's break down what conditions you should expect and for how long.

Drastic drop in temperatures

A strong push of cold air moved in behind a cold front on Saturday evening. As a result, a widespread freeze is likely to continue through at least Tuesday afternoon. Even at that point, temperatures may only just barely be above freezing, in the lower 30s. There could even be some areas that won't get above freezing for 60 hours or more.

Another round of dangerously cold temperatures is in the forecast for Tuesday night, with "feels like" temperatures once again below zero. Thus, a Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect until noon Tuesday.

The National Weather Service said sub-freezing temperatures will continue through Wednesday morning.

Hazardous road conditions

With the dangerous cold continuing into Monday night, any melting on the roads during the day will refreeze overnight, creating icy and hazardous road conditions Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters say that anything that fell from now and Tuesday won't fully melt  until Wednesday afternoon.
