KILLEEN, Texas — As below-freezing temperatures move into Central Texas, it's important to know where you can go to escape the cold.
Numerous organizations are opening up warming centers, so those in need can protect themselves from the frigid weather and possibly even get a meal.
Temple
Salvation Army
The Salvations Army located at 419 W. Ave. G will open around the clock starting Saturday night. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided. Pets are not accepted at this shelter. Please contact the Salvation Army for additional information.
Impact Church
Impact Church located at 306 E. Adams Ave. is open around the clock starting Saturday night. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and showers will be provided to anyone who needs assistance. Pets are accepted at this shelter. Please contact Impact Church for additional information.
Waco
The Salvation Army and Dewey Community Center
The Salvation Army in Waco is preparing to open its doors to those in need during the below-freezing temperatures expected to begin Saturday, Jan. 13.
The shelter, located at 300 Webster in Downtown Waco, will offer a place for people to come to escape the cold and get any essential items they may need.
The Salvation Army has also partnered with the City of Waco to prepare meals for the Dewey Community Center, which will also serve as a warming shelter. This center is expected to be open from Sunday, Jan. 14 to Wednesday, Jan. 17. The City says the center will provide a warm space, cots, blankets, Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) and bottled water.

Harker Heights
Central Fire Station and Police Station
The Central Fire Station, located at 401 Indian Trail in Harker Heights, will reportedly open as the first warming center for the city, with a secondary center at the Police Station Lobby, located at 402 Indian Trail.
The City of Harker Heights said if there is a need to upscale the shelters, the transition will be made to an Emergency Shelter, which also provides sleeping cots, blankets and hygiene kits.
Killeen
Arts and Activities Center
The center, located at 801 N. 4th St., will open its doors at 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 8 and Tuesday, Jan. 9. The center will close after each day at 8 a.m. However, if no one is taking advantage of this shelter by 11:30 p.m., the warming center will close at that time.
The City says these warming centers are intended to provide temporary relief from the cold to those in need. This means that no beds or showers will be provided at the centers.

J & K Inc.
The warming center, located at 110 Church Street in Marlin, will be open during the upcoming cold weather event.
Copperas Cove
Fairview Community Church
The warming center located at 1202 Veterans Avenue, will be open from Jan. 12 – 21 to serve as a temporary warming center for Copperas Cove citizens in need.
Groesbeck
Living Proof Church
The warming center located at 1207 E Navasota St. Groesbeck, TX will be a warming shelter station. Please go there if you need a warm shelter during the cold weather.
Bryan
VFW
This warming center will be available from 8 p.m. on Sunday through noon on Wednesday at 794 North Harvey Mitchell Parkway. For more information or to volunteer, call 979-823-0550. The Community Action Coalition of Brazos County is sponsoring the center.
