Salado residents picking up the pieces after hail damage

Hail and more than four inches of rain moved through the area in just an hour and a half.

SALADO, Texas — Residents of the Village of Salado awoke Wednesday morning to damaged cars, windows and more after baseball-sized hail rained down for around 90 minutes late Tuesday evening.

The National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm warnings and watches for most of Central Texas on Tuesday, April 9.

In Salado, hail knocked out the windows and back windshield and left severe dents in resident Avery Sabe's new car.

"I bought the car three days ago," Sabe said.

Sabe said his attempts to mitigate the damage by covering the glass with towels and blankets weren't enough as he spent the day cleaning the debris from the inside of the car.

"Just been cleaning, trying to clean out the glass, dry out the car," Sabe said. "Trying to get it as clean as possible so I can get to work tomorrow."

Jep Clemmons was up from Austin Tuesday night to see the storm out with his mother. He woke up to his vehicle nearly totaled from the hail.

"I just parked it and hoped for the best near a tree under the driveway," Clemmons said.

Our 6 News weather team estimates nearly 1.5 to 2.5-inch hail and nearly 4 inches of rain swept through the area.

Residents say insurance adjusters and contractors made their way through the village to offer their repair and claim services on Wednesday.
