WACO, Texas — For Baylor freshman Brendon De Lerosa, being happy about Saturday's football game is an understatement.
"People around the nation know who we are on College GameDay. So when they turn on the tv in the morning, they're going to be like Baylor versus Oklahoma, so it’s pretty cool," De Lerosa said.
The last time ESPN College Gameday rolled into Waco was in 2015. For host Rece Davis, this time is different.
"I think the renaissance that Matt Rhule has lead here is compelling," Davis said. “Even with Oklahoma and their loss. This is the best story and best game of the weekend.”
The nation will watch as College Gameday Broadcast from the South Plaza at McLane stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is at 6:44 p.m.
"Hats off to the kids for playing so well so far,” College Gameday Analyst Desmond Howard said. "They have an undefeated season, and so it’s just great to be able to shine a spotlight on a program that is up and coming and that’s trending in the right direction and deserves the attention."
Davis said being welcomed by the City of Waco and Baylor fans is gratifying and humbling.
"We understand they are not coming out to see the Rolling Stones or Drake or somebody. They are coming out to use our show as a vehicle to celebrate something that's important to them,” Davis said.
De Lerosa couldn't agree more.
"It makes you feel proud. I feel like I’m a part of the team, part of the school, part of the Baylor line. It's really exciting that I’m right there," said De Lerosa.
