The National Weather Service will assess the damage to determine if it was caused by straight line winds or a tornado.

Trees crashed onto cars, houses and power lines leaving thousands of people in the dark, the damage mainly struck parts of Limestone and McLennan Counties.

The National Weather Service will assess the damage to determine if it was caused by straight line winds or a tornado.

The area was under multiple tornado warnings from about 5:45 a.m. to 7 a.m.

6 News Meteorologist Zac Scott said the storms may have produced brief tornadoes and straight-line winds in excess of 60 mph but the sounds that came with those winds are what struck people.

"I heard a roaring rumble," Jeff Pettigrew, Mart resident, said. "Then it was almost a screeching sound and that is when it hit."

The winds caused large parts of metal roofs to be torn off buildings and thrown hundreds of feet.

"The steel purlins from that building were ripped off and they went over my house and my neighbors house and landed two blocks over," Pettigrew said.
