Waco PD: Some Cameron Park roads closed due to downed trees, icy roads

The roads were re-frozen and described as "incredibly slick." They ask that people avoid driving for their own safety.

WACO, Texas — A few Cameron Park roads in Waco are being shut down Friday morning because of downed trees and slick roads, according to the City of Waco.

In a Facebook post, the city shared photos of crews from the Waco Parks and Recreation and Public Works assessing the park for safety.

The post said the roads were re-frozen and described as "incredibly slick." They ask that people avoid driving for their own safety.

Police did not say when roads will reopen.

Last night, Waco PD warned drivers of power outages -- likely caused by ice -- that impacted traffic lights and intersections. Police asked for the public to be cautious and treat intersection outages like four-way stops if they do decide to drive.

Thursday's winter storm brought freezing rain, ice and sleet to Central Texas, which caused road conditions to deteriorate and forced many to stay home from school or work. Some areas like Killeen even shut down major roads that iced over for safety.

On Friday, Central Texas woke up to another round of icy roads. Though temperatures are expected to creep up throughout the day, it will still feel like it's in the teens and any ice that melts in the daytime will refreeze overnight.
