WACO, Texas — La Vega’s dominate run game helped them pick up a 35-22 win over Robinson on Friday as the Pirates continue to stay undefeated in district.
Coming into the game the Rockets and the Pirates were meeting for the first time since 2015. The last time Robinson beat La Vega was in 2005
La Vega’s running back Bryson Roland would rush into the end zone to put the first points on the board.
The Pirates defense would attack Brice McCurdy and stall the Robinson offense.
Once the Pirates got back on offense it would be Roland who would score again for La Vega. They would go up 14-0 quickly.
Before the half would expire Robinson able to make something happen. On fourth down, the ball would get snapped over McCurdy’s head. He was able to pick up the ball and throw it to Steven Knight who jumps up and takes the ball all the way to the house to finally put the Rockets on the board.
La Vega’s run game would continue to dominate in the second half and the Pirates would never turn away from their lead.
Pirates head coach Don Hyde said, "Any win you get in any district game or high school football game is a big win. I mean we challenged our guys up front this week after we didn't run the ball very well last week and they responded very very well tonight. And Bryson did a good job of finding the creases and making big plays."
La Vega will take on Connally next Friday at 7 p.m.
