HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas — Harker Heights High School quarterback Hudson Humble has been leading his team and putting up big numbers this season for the Knights.
“Knowing that he's gonna get the job done and I don't have to worry about it," said senior center Fernando Rodriguez.
The Knights are undefeated in district play and 6-2 overall on the season. Hudson Humble is a big reason. He threw for five touchdowns In Friday's game on Oct. 18 against Copperas Cove.
"He's just been constantly growing, constantly getting better. And I mean, just improving every day,” senior wide receiver Tyler Johnson said.
"He hasn't even peaked yet, so he's gonna be really good,” said Rodriguez.
Hudson Humble is only a 10th grader too, which makes his stats this season even more impressive.
“I see a bunch of other sophomore quarterbacks and he's well above them," said Johnson.
"He's also surrounded by an unbelievable sophomore class. They don't play like sophomores," head coach Mark Humble said.
"It's pretty exciting just to see what I'm like right now and then try to compare it to my senior year,” Hudson said,
Since he is only a sophomore, teams do try to take advantage of the young quarterback, but Hudson prepares for all the defenses he will face.
"A lot of defenses like to test him and I would too and see if he can make the plays to beat them," said coach Mark Humble. "We have a lot of weapons and so there's no, there's no telling what a defense is going to do and what they're going to try to do to take away certain players. And so we have to kind of prepare for everything. On the other hand, that makes him more prepared. It makes our offense more prepared for the looks that they may see."
Hudson Humble has helped the Knights be at the top of the district 12-6A in total offensive yards this season, averaging over 500 yards per game. He's thrown 30 touchdowns this season and has 2,344 total offensive yards.
But the biggest challenge for Hudson Humble is playing under his head coach who he also calls dad.
“It's a lot of pressure,” said Hudson Humble.
The father son duo is something that the two of them would not trade for the world.
"Sometimes that I have to step back and, and just enjoy it and say, man, like he's playing unbelievable, he's doing a great job and just to enjoy the moments because it's hard to believe we're already into game nine and, you know, his sophomore year is almost over,” coach Mark Humble said.
The Knights are on a bye week this week, but will host Shoemaker at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1.
