WACO, Texas — Gatesville rallied back in the second half after a 20-point fourth quarter deficit to beat Connally 35-34 Friday night.
Playoff implications were on the line for many teams across Central Texas including Gatesville and Connally in a District 12-4A clash that came down to the wire.
The Cadets offense got off to a fire start score three touchdowns in the first half to take a 20-0 lead.
Before halftime Gatesville would score a touchdown as senior running back Rayshon Smith rushes in to get the Hornets on the board.
Coming out of the locker room Gatesville would be able to make it a one score game until the Cadets would take a leading control.
That was all until the fourth quarter.
Connally four-star quarterback, Jamarion Vincent, threw a costly interception that set up the Hornets to score another touchdown making it a six point game.
With less then two minutes to go in the game the Hornets drive down and score a touchdown as Smith rushes in once again. The successful extra point would give Gatesville a 35-34 lead.
Vincent and the Cadets would pick up a huge first down off of a big play on fourth down that left eight seconds on the clock for Connally to try to seal the game away with a field goal.
Hornet's senior Zavier Clater would block the attempt and give Gatesville the win 35-34.
The Hornets now heading to the playoffs making some history as they clinch their fifth consecutive post-season berth for the first time in the programs history.
