BELTON, Texas — Winning is in Clif Carroll's blood. He has won at every level in his coaching career and now hopes to bring that winning magic to Mary Hardin Baylor.
Carroll recently left Sul Ross State University as the school's all-time leader in career wins to replace Ken DeWeese, who retired as the winningest coach in UMHB history, as the new head men's basketball coach.
"It's a winning program," Carroll said. "There's a lot of talent here and I'm just going to come in and put my spin on it and see if we can't build off what Coach DeWeese did"
Carroll has worked for some of the best coaches in college basketball such as Bobby Knight, Steve Green and Jim Sigona. Just like his mentors, UMHB has the winning mentality he is looking for on and off the court.
"They strive for excellence every day and that's something I do in my life every day so it was a good fit and a no brainer," Carroll said. "It's a legitimate chance to win a national championship."
