WACO, Texas — The Waco City Council approved a $5.3 million deal for a family entertainment center during its meeting Tuesday night. The vote was unanimous, aside from Mayor Kyle Deaver, who decided not to vote.
The family entertainment center is expected to include a Cinemark Theater, an entertainment venue, and possibly a Topgolf.
The incentive will not come from the city right away, but will be rebated to the developers using a portion of the property and sales taxes generated by the entertainment center.
This project will be broken up into three phases. It covers about 142 acres along I-35 south of New Road and North of the Central Texas Marketplace.
The center will include a Cinemark theater, restaurants, fast food, and retail shops.
A Topgolf has been proposed, but it has not been confirmed yet. They are also proposing to add an entertainment venue, such as a Dave and Busters or Main Event.
The project will include a new city street from I-35 to New Road with a traffic signal and new sewer line.
The city of Waco said the area where the entertainment center is expected to be built is vacant due to infrastructure challenges.
Council members decided to give the developer up to $5.3 million in 10 years.
