WACO, Texas — The Waco Chamber of Commerce released an economic development update that says its economic index has hit an all-time high.
The Chamber of Commerce said Waco continues to flourish. When it comes to retail spending, hotel/motel stays, home sales, and employment, it has improved by 2.3% over April 2018.
Earlier this year, the Waco Chamber of Commerce said tourism in Waco not only increased but quadrupled.
Retail spending increased by 7.2%, while hotel and motel stays increased by 21.4%. In 12 months, hotel occupancy has averaged at about 73%.
The Chamber said there is still a strong housing demand in the area as well. Home sales have increased by 20.2% compared to last year.
When it comes to employment, the Chamber said job creation remains robust. In about a 12-month period, 1,900 new jobs were added.
