LAMPASAS, Texas — A rumor about a 'hit list' targeting Lampasas ISD students began spreading rapidly on social media, causing widespread concern among parents and students alike. As a result, many parents choose to keep their children home from school.
However, the threat was deemed not criminal after a thorough investigation by Lampasas law enforcement and school district officials.
Lampasas ISD Superintendent Chane Roscoe emphasized verifying information before sharing it on social media. He warned that spreading false information can have serious consequences, including fear and anxiety.
"If you're a parent sitting at home and the only thing you get your news from is Facebook, then you need to contact the school directly to get the facts before you put something on social media that's not true," Roscoe said.
Roscoe also stressed the significance of open communication between parents and schools. He urged parents to ensure their contact information is up-to-date with the school district and to establish strong relationships with school officials.
"If you have a child that's been through some traumatic things, you need to develop a relationship with the school, the school counselor, and the administration, so we can know what that child is going through," he explained.
As technology continues to shape our lives, it's crucial to remember that not all information found online is accurate. Verifying information and relying on trusted sources can help prevent the spread of misinformation.
