Water conservation notice lifted for parts of Lampasas County

Despite the water conservation notice being lifted, a boil water notice still remains in effect.

LAMPASAS COUNTY, Texas — A water conservation notice has been lifted in parts of Lampasas County due to a water main break that occurred on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

A boil water notice that was issued afterward the break was reported has remained in place, however.

According to the City of Lampasas, the break occurred in the vicinity of Taylor Creek on the Kempner Water Supply system and was reported shortly before noon on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Businesses and residents are requested to "eliminate all unnecessary use of water" for things like car washing, watering lawns, and watching clothes until the repairs are made.

Kempner city hall was also closed the day the water main break occurred.

The break also caused classes to be cancelled for Lampasas ISD on Wednesday, Oct. 23. 

Parents, Due to the expected water issues tomorrow, school has been canceled for Wednesday, 10/23/24.

In an update Wednesday evening, the City of Lampasas said mechanical repairs have been completed, and the process to restore water to the Kempner system has begun. Lampasas crew members are reportedly monitoring the process closely and will begin restoring water to Lampasas "as soon as possible".

The City advised that it could take up to 12 hours for water to make it to Lampasas, but they hope the system can be restored no later than the evening of Thursday, Oct. 24.

Water distribution will reportedly continue at the Fire Department beginning at 7 a.m. Oct. 24.

A boil water notice was issued for affected residents Wednesday morning as well, advising citizens to bring water they will be consuming to a "vigorous rolling boil" and to have it boil for two minutes. Bottled water is also okay to use as a substitution.
