TEMPLE, Texas — A wave of new businesses is set to open in the Temple-Belton area, bringing more than 100 jobs to the community.
The development includes five distinct businesses: a preschool that opened over a year ago, Wags Spa for dog grooming, Safe Splash swim school, William Hoyt bagels and brew, and Burst Bowls, which offers frozen yogurt and acai bowls.
"Temple-Belton is in need of great customer service-based industries," said Tanner Lowry, the development's owner. "We're super excited to bring these services to the community."
Beyond expanding local services, the development promises to create quality employment opportunities. The project will generate over 100 jobs, including 50 teaching positions at the preschool and 12-15 positions at each additional business.
What sets this development apart is its commitment to competitive wages. "Our heart is to pay these people 15 to 20% more," Lowry explained.
Safe Splash Swim School, one of the development's cornerstone businesses, particularly emphasizes community impact. General Manager Ashley Major, a local mom, understands firsthand the importance of accessible swim lessons.
"As a mom, swim lessons are really important, but thankfully, it's right in my neighborhood," said Major, who has enrolled herself and her young daughter in parent-taught classes. "We need to ensure that no matter what type of body of water she's around, she'll be safe."
The swim school offers innovative programs starting at an early age. "As soon as they can crawl, they can learn to pull themselves out of the water," Major explained. We teach them how to rescue themselves."
The businesses will open in phases:
- Mid-December: Wags Spa
- January 6: Safe Splash official opening
- Late January: William Hoyt bagels and brew
- February/March: Burst Bowls
