WACO, Texas — A local church is giving away groceries for free to help families restock their pantry in a time when they may need it the most.
Family of Faith Worship Center in Waco has been feeding families for about 15 years, but now Pastor Ruben Andrade said they've had to adapt in order to provide food to the community during a time of uncertainty.
"There may be groceries available in the super market, but some people don't have the funds or the money to go purchase groceries," Pastor Andrade said.
They started doing free curbside gorcery pickup on Thursdays starting at 10 a.m. and they expect to feed about 300 families. In the past, they have feed about 700 each week because people were able to go inside and choose their own food. Now with the new social distancing guidelines they have to pre-package grocery bags, but they have fewer helping hands.
"We've gone from about 30 to 40 volunteers on a given Thursday to less than 10," Pastor Andrade said.
At times, they've helped communities outside of Waco, such as Houston after Hurricane Harvey and Franklin after a tornado hit.

Pastor Andrade said he didn't want to stop now when people may need them the most.
"I think that as humans regardless of the color of our skin or the language that we speak, it's important to come together and take care of one another," Pastor Andrade said.
The curbside grocery pickup is on Thursday starting at 10 a.m. and they plan to continue this every Thursday for as long as they can.
