BELL COUNTY, Texas — Texas State Rep. Hugh Shine released a statement to the residents of District 55 after losing the Republican seat to Hillary Hickland on Super Tuesday.
Shine has been serving as the representative of District 55, which represents much of Temple and Belton, since 2016. Prior to that, Shine also served in the Texas House from 1986 to 1991.
During his time as a state representative, Shine helped in the establishment of Texas' Economic Stabilization Fund, or the "Rainy Day" Fund, as well as Bell County's Underground Water Conservation District and the Constitutional Amendment that grants property tax relief to residents if a disaster declaration is issued by the governor.
Shine released the following statement to the people of District 55:
"Debbie and I want to thank you for your amazing support through the years. While this election did not turn out the way we had hoped, it does not deter me from serving the community that has supported us.
I have always lived with a servant’s heart. My military service brought me to Bell County. My community service brought me closer to our neighbors and the organizations invested in seeing Bell County thrive. While the time for serving as your state representative has come to an end, know that Debbie and I will continue to serve in whatever role God has in store for us. “In all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.“ Proverbs 3:6.
Thank you, again, for your prayers, your words of encouragement, and all the joy we have shared together. There is more to come.
God bless you all. And may God continue to bless the great state of Texas."
Shine will continue to serve in his position through the end of 2024.
