TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Police Department released 52-year-old David Tate late Friday night after they "arrested [him] for murder" earlier that day.
Temple PD told 6 News the Bell County District Attorney's Office deferred Tate's case and "requested additional information be gathered". Since getting that order, Tate has been released from custody.
Temple PD arrested Tate for murder earlier on Friday. Temple PD arrested him in connection with the shooting death of Vernon Johnson.
Someone shot and killed Johnson just after 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9, when he was at house at the 700 block of Luna Ln in Temple. The homeowner told police he shot Johnson multiple times after Johnson "entered his yard".
