TEMPLE, Texas — A gunman is on the run after an early morning shooting in Temple, according to the Temple Police Department.
TPD said the shooting happened around 5:45 a.m. near the 600 block of W. French Ave.
The shooter, who has not been identified, reportedly fired one round at the victim before running from the scene.
The victim was taken to Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Temple with non life-threatening injures, TPD said.
At the same time police are investigating three other shootings and two stabbings that all happened within the past two weeks. Many of the crimes are happening in the same area around Paul Revere Street.
Officials say they don't know why there have been so many shootings lately or why so much crime has been happening in one location, but say they are doing everything they can to stop it.
"The safety of our residents is our officers first priority so when things like this happen they make sure they do everything necessary to investigate and get to the bottom of things to make sure our community is safe," said Cody Weems, Temple Police Spokesperson.
Weems says people can also stay protected by being alert and aware of their surroundings at all times.
Police ask anyone who may have information about the shooting or any of the crimes to call TPD at 2540298-5500 or submit their tip to Bell County Crime Stoppers.
