Temple police chief accepts job with Lubbock PD

Floyd Mitchell will be leaving Temple to become the chief of police for the Lubbock Police Department.

TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Police Department's chief of police will be leaving Central Texas to take a job out west.

Floyd Mitchell will be leaving his post to become the chief of the Lubbock Police Department. 

“I can’t begin to express the gratitude and respect I have for the men and women employed by the city of Temple who serve in every capacity for the benefit of its citizens," Mitchell said in a statement. "I also want to thank the members of the council and all the citizens of this great community for the trust and support... I have had the opportunity to meet hundreds, if not thousands of people and formed numerous personal and professional relationships that I will cherish and truly miss.”

In a statement, the city of Temple thanked Mitchell for service to the community and said the process of selecting his replacement will begin soon.

“We sincerely appreciate police chief Mitchell’s years of service to the City of Temple, and we wish him well in his future endeavors," the statement read. "The search for a new police chief will begin as soon as possible.”
