One killed in drag boat race on Brazos River in Waco

Police said the boat was going 200 miles per hour when it caught air and flipped.

WACO, Texas — One person died when their drag boat flipped on the Brazos River in Waco Sunday afternoon, according to the Waco Police Department.

It happened at the Southern Drag Boat Association's "Duel on the Brazos" at Brazos Park East around 1:20 p.m.

Police said the boat was going 200 mph when it caught air and flipped, throwing the driver into the water.

Medical teams pulled the driver from the water in under a minute but they were unable to save him. He died at the scene.

The driver was not identified but police did say he was not from Waco.
