New construction at I-35 Salado safety rest areas to boost parking

TxDOT looks to add more than 100 spaces, collectively, to the northbound and southbound sides of I-35's Salado safety rest areas

WACO, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation announced parking spaces are going to be added to the Salado Safety Rest Areas along I-35 on Thursday.

TxDOT says fifty-two trucking parking spaces will be added to the northbound rest area while 51 are going to be added to southbound rest area, totaling 81 and 80 truck spots, respectively. Rest areas across the state are built to reduce driver fatigue and promote road safety, ensuring travelers reach their destinations safely.

The $12.1 million project, being undertaken by Texas Materials Group, Inc., is expected to be completed in late 2025. There will be little to no disruption to the everyday operations of the rest areas.

There are four of these rest areas, two in Salado and two in Hill County, located along I-35 within the Waco district.
