LIST | Warming shelters open up around Central Texas

Find out where you can go to get away from the cold while freeze warnings last in Central Texas.

TEMPLE, Texas — As cold weather and freeze warnings hit the Central Texas area, warming shelters have begun opening up to offer a warm place to stay though the cold nights. 

If you or someone you know is in need of a warm shelter during this time, please view the list below. 

Temple 

The Salvation Army of Bell County McLane Center of Hope 

Located at 419 West Avenue G, this warming center will be open from 4 p.m. through 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31 and Wednesday, Nov. 1. Guests will be provided dinner and breakfast. The Center will continue to monitor the weather to see if any additional days are needed.

Impact Temple 

Located at 306 E. Adams Ave, this church will open as a warming shelter any night that the forecast predicts a drop in temperature to 32 degrees and it will be open from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. 

The church says anyone can come any time during the nights it is open and pets are welcome as long as they are secured in a crate or on a leash.

Killeen

The Killeen Arts and Activities Center 

Located at 801 North 4th Street will open as a warming shelter for those in need from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 31 through Thursday, Nov. 2. The center will close each morning to follow sanitation guidelines and deep clean the facility.

The City says if no one is utilizing the service by 11:30 p.m., the warming center will close.
