Killeen holds 'No More Violence' youth convention

The convention supports families who have lost young loved ones to violent crime.

KILLEEN, Texas — Violent crime in Killeen fell nearly 50% in 2018, according to the Killeen Police Department. Community leaders say that number still isn't low enough.

The No More Violence youth convention held its second annual event at the Killeen Community Center.

The convention supports families who have lost young loved ones to violent crime.

Kids learned about peacemaking, bullying, suicide and domestic violence at the event.

"We know that Killeen has a lot of violence that takes place, but we want to come in and help reduce the violence," organizer Patricia Allen said. "At the same time we want to be a support system of the community and try to have a better safer community for our children.”

The organizers are from Dallas but said they plan to hold the convention in Killeen again next year.
