'I've never seen a dead body before:' Neighbors still shaken by Killeen shootings

"I put my stuff up, I went in and watched the Astros game and then I heard two shots."

KILLEEN, Texas — Neighborhoods tried to come to the understanding that their neighborhoods will never be the same.

"Last night when I came home from the bowling alley," one man who wanted to keep his identity hidden said. "I put my stuff up, I went in and watched the Astros game and then I heard two shots."

The shooting happened just before 10 p.m. on Wednesday night. It claimed the life of a 19-year-old man. Killeen Police say they have no new leads on his killer.

"I've never seen a dead body before. This is the first time for me," he said. "I'm still shaken up by it."

The first shooting in Killeen took place just before 9 p.m. in the 2100 Block of Reese Creek Road. That shooting killed a 48-year old man who was attempting to break up a fight between a man and a woman, police say.

"The lights and the sirens were going off, I went to my front window to find out what was going on and that's when I heard a woman yell please help me, please help," an unidentified woman who lives down the street said. "As unfortunate as it is, we wave at each other all the time but it's not something you would ever expect to happen right here."

Police say that following the shooting that killed the 48-year-old man, the suspect forced the woman into a car and drove to Round Rock where she was released. He was captured and booked into jail a short time later.

"As we speak now, I'm still processing," one woman who says she knew the man said . "I'm very upset about what has happened. Very upset. Very hurt."

"They need to find the guy who did the shooting," the man said when asked if there is concern as kids get ready to head door-to-door on Halloween. "Yes there's cause for concern for these kids in this neighborhood. I just don't know what else to do, I'm staying here and just don't know what else to do."

"Part of that concern," one neighbor said. "You never know the identity of adults getting dressed up as well, so that is a little frightening."

The Killeen Police Department is asking parents to not allow their kids to trick or treat alone and to stay in areas they know as well. They also tell kids to never go inside and to stay on the porch. If you see anything suspicious call 9-1-1 immediately.

"It was like what you see in the movies," the man who found the 19-year old victim said. "When you say shots fired to 9-1-1, they were here in a heartbeat."

As for the woman who says her friend was gunned down, she wants swift justice.

"I feel really bad," she said. "I hope the person who'd done this gets what he deserves."
