MCLENNAN COUNTY, Texas — On Halloween McLennan county probation officers are rounded-up sex offenders in local neighborhoods.
Between 6:00 p.m and 10:00p.m. all sex offenders on probation in McLennan County are required to report to the McLennan County Community Supervision and Corrections Department on 6th and Jefferson on Thursday.
There are a total of 131 sex offenders under probation in McLennan County. 109 of them will report to the adult probation department.
"There are another 22 who have verified exemptions,” Director of the McLennan County Adult Probation office Chip Seigman said. “Either they are in jail, or they may be in some kind of custody or in a medical facility, but we verify they are all there."
For 16 years McLennan County has conducted a sex offender round up. During the round up offenders do things that are pro-social.
"They will be working on their sex offender therapy assignment, they may be watching some alcohol and drug videos, and will be updating their photos and risk assessment instruments while they are here," Seigman said.
In the past years, all offenders have been accounted for. If they do not report as scheduled staff will attempt to contact them and police may be called.
"It adds a level of protection and people know that during those peak Halloween hours sex offenders on probation won’t be in their houses, or on the streets while kids and parents are going trick or treating," Seigman said.
