CLIFTON, Texas — With an excessive heat warning in effect for Central Texas, folks in Clifton are seeing just how "dangerously hot" it can be.
Clifton Police announced Wednesday, Aug. 21, that school zone signs stopped flashing around the city. Turns out, TxDOT told police the heat was frying the batteries inside these signs, keeping them from flashing during school zone hours.
TxDOT said the problem isn't just in Clifton; they're fixing signs all over Bosque and McLennan Counties due to the heat. They say they have crews working to find and fix all the broken signs.
Clifton Police say the school zones are still active, whether the lights are on or not. They advise drivers to continue obeying speed limits, especially around school zones.
As of Wednesday, the Heat Index Value or "feels like temperatures" were around 110 degrees in the Clifton area.
