CRAWFORD, Texas — A GoFundMe was set up for the family of the 17-year-old McGregor boy who reportedly drowned in a creek outside of Crawford over the weekend.
The fundraiser was set up by Luis Olvera who described his brother, Cristian Olvera, as a "loving and charismatic young man who was deeply loved by his friends and family," according to the GoFundMe description.
"His charisma and happiness radiated throughout and affected all who surrounded him," he continued. "... He was a happy, loving, and caring young man full of life."
On Sunday, before 2:30 p.m., Cristian Olvera went swimming with friends in a creek near Crawford, according to the Waco Tribune. The Tribune reported that he swam near a low-water crossing where brush from recent storms piled up. He reportedly went underwater, but never resurfaced.
A local game warden later found his body and recovered it, according to McLennan County Sheriff Paul McNamara.
Per his obituary, Cristian Olvera went to McGregor High School and was going to start his junior year in the fall.
Luis Olvera set a goal of $10,000 to raise in hopes to help support Cristian's family during their time of mourning.
