WACO, Texas — A new family entertainment center, which the Waco City Council approved a $5.2 million incentive for on July 2, broke ground on Thursday. The developer, NewQuest Properties, said the 143-acre Cottonwood Creek Market is set to open in spring 2020.
Cinemark Theater was the first business to break ground in the 285,000 square-foot development at the intersection of I-35 and Loop 340.
"We are excited to have broken ground with the City of Waco on this community development, which will offer a star-studded cast of family entertainment anchors representative of NewQuest's premium retail centers," managing partner Steve Alvis said. "There is a great momentum with road construction is underway on the new public connection between New Road and Interstate 35, which is scheduled for completion by year-end."
NewQuest said other national brands are negotiating final terms for its space, including a 20-lane bowling and family-dining venue. NewQuest said it has reached a deal with a national retailer in golf entertainment.
KCEN Channel 6 reached out to Topgolf about the development.
"We are currently exploring potential expansion in the Waco area for a local Topgolf experience," a Topgolf spokesperson said. "Once I have more information to share, I will definitely keep you in the loop."
It is still not confirmed yet if Topgolf will be coming to Waco.
Alvis said Waco's growth excites him.
"Waco has needed an entertainment hub for quite a while," he said. "This venue will be an important cornerstone for the city and its growing number of tourists."
According to NewQuest, Cottonwood Creek Market will offer a lineup of diverse restaurants and trendy retail shops.
