TROY, Texas — A celebration of life and candle vigil is being held to honor the lives of the Maynards, a Troy family that has been lost at sea off the coast of Alaska since Aug. 3.
The celebration of life and candle vigil will be held on Aug. 30 at Troy First Assembly of God, 722 W Main St. from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. At 8:15 p.m., the celebration will move to the baseball field where the Troy Baseball Association will host the candle vigil for Colton and Brantley Maynard as both boys played for the association.
The vigil comes after the Alaska Dive Search Rescue and Recovery Team called off their search for the missing Maynard family of Troy, the organization has announced.
On Saturday, Aug. 3, David Maynard, 42, his wife Mary, 37, and their two sons, Colton, 11, and Brantley, 7, were aboard a 28-foot aluminum boat with four others when it capsized 16 miles west of Homer Spit around 7 p.m. The four others survived, but the Maynards were never found, despite search efforts by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Troy community has come together in the wake of the tragedy. A GoFundMe for the family has already surpassed its $10,000 goal.
