BELTON, Texas — Dawn Schiller was officially hired as the next Southwest Elementary School principal during a regular meeting of the Belton ISD Board of Trustees.
Schiller has served as interim principal at the elementary school sine November and also serves as director of math and science curriculum for the school district.
“I’ve been focused on developing curriculum at a district level for several years now when I took the interim role in the fall,” Schiller said in a release from the district. “I got in there and have just loved every minute of working with students, parents and teachers again. The staff are so dedicated, and the students work so hard. I’m so grateful to have the opportunity to continue serving alongside the Southwest teachers and parents to provide a quality education for each of our students.”
The 22-year education veteran earned her bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and a master's degree from Concordia University Texas. Schiller has worked as a teacher, instructional facilitator and campus administrator.
She has worked with the district's curriculum department for the last five years but will step down from that role and into the principal position permanently.
“We are thrilled to have such a passionate leader willing to step into this key position,” Superintendent Matt Smith said in the release. “She knows the importance of building a strong school culture that supports our students academically and socially. And she loves children.”
