It's prom time!

TEXAS, USA — KWBT-FM, 94.5 The Beat, is giving high school students throughout the Waco/Temple/Killeen area the chance to celebrate prom, even with social distancing. They are hosting a virtual prom Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight.

94.5 The Beat DJs will do mixes all night long of the hits students would be hearing at prom.

The station will also host a contest on Facebook and Instagram to crown a prom king and queen. The winners will win a "fantastic prize" from local sponsors. To be eligible, follow @centexbeat.

Contest participants must post a video of themselves dancing to show off their best prom dance moves to the CenTexBeat Facebook or Instagram page before 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

Participants must tag the video with the station's Facebook page, the name of their high school, and include the hashtag, #945VirtualProm.

Winners will be chosen by 94.5 The Beat staff members based on,

  • Creativity
  • Choreography
  • Execution
  • Costuming
  • Audience impact

The Virtual Red Carpet will take place from 7-8 p.m. and the virtual prom will kick off at 8 p.m. Contest rules are available at the station’s website.

“It’s a shame that students are having to go miss the rite of passage of prom this year. We wanted to provide something that will help fill the void students are feeling at this time. Our station takes pride in being more involved in the community than any other and this is just another example” 94.5 The Beat General Manager Rich Richardson said.

Anyone interested in helping sponsor the event can email Rich Richardson at rich@edwardsmediallc.com or call 254-313-1450.
