Hewitt woman recovers stolen trailer, most of her possessions are gone

A resident's trailer that was stolen in mid-December has been recovered, but a lot of her property is reportedly still lost.

WACO, Texas — Hewitt resident Kristi Reid has been reunited with her trailer, which was stolen sometime between Dec. 17 and Dec. 18.

When 6 News first reported on this in mid-December, Reid and local authorities had no idea where the trailer could be. They only knew someone had stolen it from the Waco Truck Stop in Hewitt and fled northbound on I-35.

6 News spoke with both Reid and the Chief of Hewitt Police, John McGrath. They said the trailer was worth thousands and everything inside added up to thousands more.

Reid said her whole life was in the trailer. She was in the midst of moving when it was stolen, which is why all her possessions were in the trailer.

"I know that stuff can be replaced, but some of that stuff can't be replaced," Reid said.

Reid planned to have the trailer parked at the truck stop for one night but returned the next day to see it had been stolen.

According to McGrath, the abandoned property was found in the 400 block of Victor Street in Waco. The trailer was found in the 1200 block of Elm Ave in Waco.

There were some items left at the Victor Street location that detectives returned to Reid, but most items are reportedly still unaccounted for.

Police said they will continue to investigate the theft and the missing items, but unless something breaks they don’t expect to see much progress in the case at this point.
