'I want them something to be done legally' | A&L Sheds has yet to refund customers with unfinished work

A&L Sheds customer Donna Polston was told by the owner, Amanda Sparks, that she would receive her $10,000 refund but that never happened.

MOODY, Texas — It's been almost six months since 6 News spoke to Donna Polston, a Moody woman who hired A&L Sheds to build her a shed in February 2023.

Since our story aired in January, Polston still has not received her refund back. She says she fed up with this situation.

"I cannot even call them to ask about my money because they have my phone number blocked from their company," Polston explained.

In February of 2023, Polston reached out to A&L Sheds based out of Houston to have them build a shed on her property in Moody. She paid them $10,376 out of pocket to build it but after months of waiting, they never fulfilled the job.

The owner of A&L Sheds, Amanda Sparks, told 6 News they were working on mailing the money back to her in late January but no money ever came.

"The list goes on and on," Polston added. "There's a lot of people now that are trying to get their money back from A&L Sheds,"

Polston helped create a Facebook group with nearly 50 people who have had yet to receive their refunds too.

Daniel Bean is apart of that group and lives just a few miles away from the A&L Sheds office in Houston. He paid the company over $14,000 to build him a shed but like Polston, that job was never done.

"They started off saying they were going to pay me back and now they're saying they don't know if they're going to pay me back at all," Bean said. "She [Sparks] is somewhat communicating with us, but not she's not holding through to her word that's for sure."

Polston is hoping to get police and Texas leaders involved in holding A&L Sheds accountable for what they've allegedly done to their customers.

"I've turned them into the Federal Trade Commission, the Attorney General's office, and the FBI," Polston shared. "I'm hoping that one of these groups will do something about these people."

What Polston says she learned from this situation is to never give any company money upfront and to do extensive on the research on the company before hiring them.

As of Jan. 31, 2024 A&L Sheds Better Business Bureau (BBB) accreditation was revoked by the BBB's Board of Directors due to failure by the business to adhere to the BBB requirement that Accredited Businesses meet and abide by the following standards. This includes:

1. Address disputes forwarded by BBB quickly and in good faith.

2.. Cooperate with BBB in efforts to eliminate the underlying cause of patterns of customer complaints that are identified by BBB.

6 News reached out to Sparks for comment on Polston's $10K refund but have not received a response back as of June 12.
