'I'm not a murderer' | Testimony continues in day two of Christopher Weiss trial

Weiss is accused of shooting and killing his 1-year-old daughter and her mother in 2017.

WACO, Texas — Jurors were shown interrogation video on April 2 as the trial of Christopher Weiss continued.

32-year-old Weiss is accused of shooting and killing his 1-year-old biological daughter and her 24-year-old mother, whom he reportedly had formerly been in a relationship with, in 2017.

According to authorities, Valarie Martinez was found shot in the head at McLennan County Road Park 3 on Tradinghouse Lake on Nov. 7, 2017. Her daughter Azariah was reportedly found strapped in the seat of a nearby car, having been shot in the head "execution-style".

Jurors were also shown interrogation video of Christopher Weiss talking with investigators at the McLennan County Sheriff's Office. Weiss had allegedly told a Ranger officer, who also took the stand, that the last time he saw Martinez was Nov. 4, the day before she is believed to have been killed.

In the video shown to the jury, Weiss allegedly hears of Martinez and her daughter's deaths for the first time, telling investigators "I thought something like that had happened".

Earlier in the day, the court was shown autopsy photos of Martinez and her daughter. Both were shot in the head at close range, according to the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office, with Martinez allegedly having been shot twice.

Joshua Ortiz, who had reportedly been in a relationship with Martinez after she and Weiss separated, also took the stand. Ortiz said he was able to positively identify Martinez's car from the crime scene photos where she was killed.

The prosecution also played interrogation video of Weiss speaking with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

In the video, Weiss said, "I’ve done some terrible things in my life, including cheating on my wife… but I’m not a murderer."
