WACO, Texas — The jury selection process began on Monday, April 1 for 32-year-old Christopher Paul Weiss, who is accused of shooting and killing his 1-year-old biological daughter and her 24-year-old mother back in November 2017.
According to authorities, the mother, Valarie Martinez, was found shot in the head at McLennan County Road Park 3 on Tradinghouse Lake on Nov. 7, 2017. Martinez's daughter, Azariah, was found strapped in a car seat of a nearby car, shot execution-style in the head.
Authorities say Weiss was married to another woman, with whom he had two daughters with and he had reportedly moved to Temple from Waco not long before his arrest.
According to an arrest affidavit, Weiss told detectives he had been in a romantic relationship with Martinez until Oct. 30, 2017, and he believed he was Azariah's father.
Throughout multiple interviews with various witnesses, authorities uncovered a possible motive when someone explained how Martinez told Weiss she would make him pay child support if he was not going to be involved in Azariah's life. Weiss denied that Martinez wanted child support, according to the affidavit.
On March 16, 2018, Weiss pled not guilty to the killings. He is facing two counts of capital murder.
