Date for competency trial set for accused McGregor shooting suspect in McLennan County

Nicolas Jaimes-Hernandez was deemed incompetent and unable to stand trial in July for a shooting he was indicted for in 2022.

MCLENNAN COUNTY, Texas — Editor's Note: The attached video aired on July 15, 2024.

A man that was previously indicted and later deemed incompetent to stand trial for shooting and killing five people in McGregor in 2022 will undergo a competency trial in 2025.

6 News was able to confirm that Judge Thomas West in the 19th District Court in McLennan County in Waco has set a competency trial date for Nicolas Jaimes-Hernandez on Feb. 15, 2025.

On Sept. 29, 2022, Jaimes-Hernandez shot and killed five people that morning, even taking shots at officers that had responded to the shooting. He was shot by the responding officers before being taken into custody.

Jaimes-Hernandez was indicted on two counts of capital murder and two counts of aggravated assault on Nov. 22, 2022, and was deemed incompetent to stand trial in July 2024.
