WHITNEY, Texas — Authorities confirmed Wednesday that a Whitney teen died in Downtown Houston over the weekend following a road rage incident that turned into a shooting.
According to police, 17-year-old Louise Wilson was driving on I-45 with two male passengers in her car around 1 a.m. on Dec. 10. Heading southbound, police said she unintentionally cut off a driver, who then pulled up to Wilson's car and began firing at her.
Wilson was shot multiple times, including in the heart, and one of her passengers was also shot, police said. Despite being shot, Wilson was able to pull over on the side of the road before she died, police said.
"She ended up dying a hero," Wilson's father, Daniel Wilson, said during the news conference. "She was shot through her heart and was able to safely pull over the car and save people in her car and other people who were driving."
The male passenger was taken to the hospital and is expected to be ok.
Police are still looking for the suspect, but did not release any details.
According to her obituary, Wilson was "adored by many."
"Louise was a caring and gentle soul with a lovely personality that could light up a room," the obituary reads.
Born May 16, 2006 in Germany to a miliary family, Wilson lived many places but called Whitney her home since 2016, according to the obit. She "driven in her scholastic pursuits" and graduating high school a year early while taking classes at Hill College.
Wilson also had dreams of traveling the world, and eventually wanted to work in law enforcement, the obit reads. She was also a volunteer at the Luthernan Sunset Pot O' Gold Thrift Store in Clifton, Lake Whitney Senior Center, Clifton Mobile Food Pantry, Hill County aw Pals, Wreaths Across America and 40 Days for Life, the obituary continues.
A GoFundMe was also created for the Wilson family to help with funeral expenses. Out of its $15,000 goal, the community raised over $17,000 at the time this article was published.
