WACO, Texas — This Thanksgiving, the Salvation Army of McLennan County is making sure its community has more to be thankful for.
On Thursday, Nov. 28, the Salvation Army is offering a Thanksgiving meal to anyone in need, the organization has announced, continuing a tradition they have upheld for over a century.
“Rising food costs have created challenges for many people in our community,” said Major Jeffrey Miracle, leader of The Salvation Army of McLennan County. “Anyone needing food this Thanksgiving is invited to get a hot Thanksgiving meal.”
According to the Salvation Army, the meal will be served at the Community Kitchen, located at 300 Webster Avenue in Waco, Texas, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Nov. 28.
This is reportedly the 133rd year the organization has served a Thanksgiving meal in Waco.
For those who do not need a meal but would like to help, the Salvation Army said they are in need of frozen pies, cookies, cakes and other desserts. Dessert donations can be dropped off at the offices at 4721 W. Waco Drive between 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Wednesday.
"Your support and generosity will help ensure that everyone in our community can enjoy a warm Thanksgiving meal during this season of gratitude," the Salvation Army said in a release.
The Salvation Army of McLennan County said they have all of their volunteer positions filled for the Thanksgiving meal, but are looking for volunteers for their Christmas meal on Dec. 25.
