Salvation Army launches annual holiday bell ringing campaign in Waco

The Salvation Army's annual holiday bell ringing campaign has kicked off in Waco, with funds raised supporting local programs for families in need.

WACO, Texas — As the holiday season approaches, the familiar sound of Salvation Army bells is once again filling the air outside local stores, signaling the start of the charity's annual fundraising campaign.

Texas Today anchor Micah Wilson and 6 News reporter Sydney Dishon were out all morning ringing bells at Cabela’s in Waco to support the cause. The funds raised during this campaign will directly benefit local communities, funding essential programs such as food assistance, housing support and other services for families facing economic challenges.

The Salvation Army's bell ringing efforts will continue until December 24th at 20 locations throughout the Waco area. The organization is also encouraging more volunteers to get involved.

“We’re always looking for more people to help,” said Major Jeff Miracle, Corps Officer and Executive Director of the Salvation Army in Waco. “Anyone can volunteer, and it’s easy to sign up online.”

The funds raised are critical for various Salvation Army programs throughout the year.

“It’s a direct impact to help at Christmas time with toys for kids,” he added. “And throughout the year, we do things like pay people’s rent and utilities. Some of the funds go to help operate our shelters. We have a men's shelter, a women's shelter, and a family shelter.”

Community members are also reminded that all donations made in Waco stay within the community.

“When you put money in our red kettle here in the Waco area, what we raise here stays here,” Miracle told 6 News. “It goes to help people right in this area.”

For those interested in volunteering, the Salvation Army encourages people to visit Register to Ring to sign up and make a difference this holiday season. You can click here to sign up for volunteering.

The holiday bell ringing campaign is a longstanding tradition for the Salvation Army, and with the generosity of local volunteers and donors, the organization aims to bring some holiday cheer to those in need throughout Waco.
