The Killeen Police and Fire Departments are out for blood this summer, in more ways than one.
Killeen Police and Killeen Fire announced they will participate in the sixth annual Battle of the Badges blood drive on Thursday, Aug. 1.
The City of Killeen said it is partnering with Carter BloodCare to host the event, held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center.
Not only is the event a chance to help the community, it is also a chance to "settle the score" between the two departments.
During the drive, donors can vote for their favorite department between Killeen PD and FD, with the winner being announced at the end.
According to the City, in the last blood drive, KPD received 83.5 votes, with KFD getting 47.5 votes. In honor of the victory, the Fire Department recently washed the Police Department's vehicles.
A promotional video from the City shows the Police and Fire Departments showing off their DJ skills before deciding to settle the feud at the blood drive.

The 2023 blood drive collected 113 units of blood from 131 donors, said the City, enough to potentially save 339 lives. It was reportedly the highest number of donors since the event began.
The drive is open to the public, with community members encouraged to donate blood and cast their ballots for their department of choice. Community members can sign up to donate at this link.
The Police and Fire Departments will also reportedly have giveaways, music and refreshments.
"The City and Carter BloodCare thanks the community for their support, as there are no real 'losers' in this challenge, just several lives saved across our area," said the City in a release.
