Killeen Fire Department to wash Police Department's vehicles for winning Battle of the Badges blood drive

Last August, Killeen Police and Killeen Fire collected enough blood to save over 300 lives at the Battle of the Badges blood drive.

KILLEEN, Texas — The Killeen Fire Department will roll out the hoses on July 15, but not to fight a fire.

That Monday, Killeen FD will wash the Killeen Police Department's vehicles in honor of their tradition following the Battle of the Badges blood drive.

Last August, Killeen FD and PD competed in the blood drive with the help of community members, who could vote for their favorite department. The losing department would have to wash the vehicles of the other.

This year, Killeen PD received 83.5 votes, with the Fire Department bringing in 47.5 votes, earning the City's police vehicles the coveted wash.

Those in need were the true winners though, as the blood drive collected a total of 113 units of blood from 131 donors, stated the City, enough blood to potentially save 339 lives.

The next blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 1 at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center, located at 3601 South WS Young Drive. You can reserve a spot to donate at this link
