'Fit4Mom' accepting canned good donations to collect for local organization

Fit4Mom Temple Belton Salado has hosted their 'Cans for the Community' food drive for five years.

SALADO, Texas — 'Fit4Mom Temple Belton Salado' is a fitness group that offers pre & postnatal health, wellness, and fitness programs for every stage of motherhood.

The creator and operator of Fit4Mom, Dana Halliburton, told 6 News her group started as 'Stroller Strides' over 20 years ago.

"We started in San Diego and then branched out and rebranded as Fit4Mom," Halliburton explained. "Now, our territory has been active and strong in our community since 2016."

Fit4Mom has about 60 active members with some of the women being new moms, trying to be moms, newly postpartum, or have older kids.

"It can be intimidating, but it's the best group of moms that you can find," Halliburton added. "It is vital for pretty much any stage of motherhood, especially being a new mom and going through postpartum depression, anxiety, and all the hormones that are thrown at you."

For the fifth year in a row, Fit4Mom is hosting their 'Cans for the Community' donation drive. In the past, they've donated the canned goods they received to the Ronald McDonald Foundation. This year, they would be more than happy to donate to a local organization ahead of Thanksgiving.

"We try to beat our goal of at least 50 pounds of donated cans," Halliburton said. "Each year, we choose a different community or a charity to donate them to."

The drive is going from Nov. 12 to Nov. 26. When you bring five canned goods to a fitness class, you'll earn an entry into their special giveaway! If you're a new mom who wants to sign up for a membership, bring five canned goods and get FREE enrollment. That equates to savings of $59.

"Any vegetables are a big hit, soups are easy, if they wanna do box they can do cornbread. Kids love the SpaghettiOs so that's always a big hit too."

People are also advised to use the cans they donate as weights during their fitness classes.

"Because we are so community-oriented, traditions like these aren't possible without our members and our staff digging in and trying to fill that need.," Halliburton said. "Whatever we can do to put that positivity into the community, we're gonna continue to do."
