BELTON, Texas — Crossroads Church in Belton hosted "drive-in" style Palm Sunday services on Sunday morning. People, whether members of the church or not, were able to drive up and watch the service.
The church set up the audio so people could either listen with their car windows open, or on the radio at 99.5 AM. The worship team stood on the front porch of the building and preformed as they normally would inside, allowing people to get a true Palm Sunday service experience.
Holly Thrasher, one of the pastors at the church, said it's their job to make people feel comfortable right now.
"If we can bring just a little bit of hope or excitement or fun into peoples lives right now," Thrasher said. "We want people to have some hope or peace in this uncertain time because God is still the same."
Kids sat on the roofs of cars in pajamas and waved to their friends who sat across the parking lot in their cars. Community members said this brought tears to their eyes.
"Wow this is my family," Angel Cruz said. Cruz has been a member of the church for seven years. "Just seeing everyone together for the first time even in their cars was just truly incredible."
"And just seeing that everyone was okay, that brought out all of my emotions," Nory Cruz, a church member, added.
The church said it will do something unique for Easter Sunday as well. Next Sunday, the church will host a "drive-thru" experience, but instead of a service it will be a day of giving.
The church leaders will fill people's cars who are in need, with food or groceries. They also ask that people donate food if they can, for Crossroads to give to those in need next Sunday, or to local food banks.
They will also have pastors available to come up to people's car windows to pray with or for them.
