WACO, Texas — The Brazos Theatre in Waco has been hosting a comedy improv night since 2013, and was not going to stop because of the coronavirus.
Beth Richards, director and owner of the theatre, came up with the idea to host the improv show0 via Zoom. So that is what the group did - the cast all gathered on Zoom and the show was streamed on Facebook live.
“We are still doing the same show, with the same troupe of actors,” Richards said. “Just they are going to be at home in their living rooms in front of a laptop.”
Normally the show would cost $12.50 but tonight was free for anyone to watch.
“We don’t want people to not be able to watch the show and have a laugh,” Richards said. “But we ask if you can to place 'pay the normal ticket price' so we can continue to do what we do.”
As art venues are forced to shut down Katie Selman, an actor in the troupe, fears they wont be able to reopen.
“My biggest fear is once this is all set and done Waco won’t be the same Waco we were enjoying just four weeks ago," Selman said.
While the Richards hopes this is the last time they have to host the comedy show virtually (held every first weekend of the month) they are planning some new shows online as well.
