KILLEEN, Texas — To help celebrate the grand opening of the brand new Killeen Animal Center, Killeen Animal Services is offering free pet adoptions from now until Saturday, May 4.
The new center is located at 3518 E. Rancier Ave. with free pet adoptions happening from noon to 6 p.m. May 2 to May 4.
"Don't miss out on this paw-some opportunity to find your new furry family member," the City of Killeen said in a Facebook post.
The new center used to be Eastlake Veterinarian Clinic, but the City of Killeen bought it in July 2023 with the help of Fort Cavazos.
It is roughly 6,000 square feet and holds 29 dog kennels and 20 cat adoption cages. In a news release, organizers say the new facility will focus more on pet adoptions while the current Killeen Animal Shelter on Commerce Drive will be used more as a stray and quarantine facility.
“This is a day we’ve been eagerly awaiting and I’m beyond thrilled,” Jessica Green, Killeen Animal Services Manager said. “Our team has poured their hearts and souls into creating a space that not only meets the physical needs of our furry residents, but also nurtures their emotional well-being.”
Additionally, the new center offers an in-house vet and operating room, improved surgical operation items, expansion of spay and neuter capabilities, and improved kennels.
It'll be open Monday to Saturday from noon to 6 p.m.
