Man killed in Waco drag boat race identified

The SDBA said Frank Carter died in a single boat accident on July 21.

WACO, Texas — The man who was killed in an accident at a boat race event in Waco has been identified.

The Southern Drag Boat Association (SDBA) said Frank Carter died in a "single boat accident" during the Duel on the Brazos event at Brazos Park East on Sunday, July 21.

According to the Waco Police Department, Carter's drag boat caught air and flipped while traveling over 100mph, throwing Carter into the water. Medical teams reportedly pulled Carter from the water in under a minute but were unable to save him.

Carter reportedly died on the scene.

The SDBA shared a statement on July 22 about the incident:

"The SDBA and Trinity racing ministries visited historic Waco, Texas for the Duel on the Brazos this past weekend," stated the organization on social media, crediting Pastor Mike Griffith of Trinity Racing Ministries. "It is with heavy heart we announce that Frank Carter was involved in a single boat accident which claimed his life. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Carter family, the Flat Flyin team and friends. Please remember them in prayer. Race in Peace, Brother Frank".

Carter's son Scott told 6 News his father "lived life to the fullest. He went out doing something he loved."

"He was a good man and he loved his family," Scott Carter said.

Scott Carter said his father had been racing since before Scott was born.

The cause of the accident remained under investigation.
