TEMPLE, Texas — As Thanksgiving approaches, a Temple restaurant owner is opening his doors to make sure no one eats alone.
The man behind the grill at Wes's Burger Shack, Wesley Teeters, is known for his burgers and his big heart.
This Thanksgiving, Teeters is once again proving that sometimes, the most important ingredient in a meal is the spirit in which it's served.
"On Thanksgiving at 1 o'clock [p.m.] we will open our doors and we will feed everyone," Teeters continues. "For free."
Teeters said it's not just about food, it's about connection. He knows just how hard the holiday season can be for some.
"I do this a lot for the people that don't have somebody to eat with and you know maybe they can't afford it," Teeters said. "That's really why we reach out and that's kind of [why] I use my restaurant as a mission. And that's what's most important to me."
Teeters has been serving hundreds of families for several years now, with Wes's Burger Shack being a staple in Temple since 2004. Teeters says the community plays a crucial role in making all this happen.
"We love seeing the look on everybody's faces when we all get together and have a Thanksgiving dinner," Teeters continues. "We love just helping the people who don't really have a place to go fellowship and friendship and just purity enjoyment."
Wes's Burger Shack is also participating in the Rescue Elves program, which helps families that may be in need of assistance with Christmas gifts for children.
"I don't do it," Teeters said. "God does it through me."
